Lake Como is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Europe. Before it was a tourist honeypot it was, a century and more ago, a thriving centre of the silk industry. So there are old settlements all around the lake, each of which offers a range of interesting accommodation possibilities. Whether you want five-star pampering or somewhere to park your campervan, there is plenty of choice on Lake Como. There are literally hundreds of self-catering options too.
Many visitors have heard about Bellagio and Varenna and set their hearts on staying there. While both of them are gorgeous, we recommend that you at least consider staying on the western shore. More of the holiday action is there, especially for families, with the best beaches towards the northern end, and the most characteristic villages with some essential attractions, like the Villas Carlotta and Balbianello, to the south. If you are self-catering, you’ll find more choice in food shopping on the western side.
Of course, we would love you to come and stay in our house in Acquaseria!
